We danced, and we cried, and we laughed and we had a really really really good time!

More details and images to follow, but the banquet was another smashing success as in the past.  The dinner was excellent, the speeches and awards were great, it was awesome to have the opportunity to chat with our sponsors and supporters and to celebrate the year that was.

The Enfield RFC was thoroughly recognized at the recent Rugby Nova Scotia banquet, with ten members being selected as all-stars for the 2012 season.

For the women's team Enfield had three selections in the women's second team, with Tasha McKenzie, Megan Sullivan and Adrienne MacDonald all getting nods.  Tor Colbert was selected to the women's junior program all-star team.

On the men's side Enfield had five selections in the first division including Ryan Dickie, Fred Porter, Evan Dickie, Jeremy Loney and Mark Sweeney.  Brandon Horne received recognition for his efforts and was selected to the second division all-star team.  Fred Porter was also nominated for the first division MVP, a well-deserved bit of attention for a player who carries the team on his shoulders with his unrelenting work-rate and willingness to give completely of himself.

The Enfield RFC would also like to congratulate Halifax Tar and Rugby NS board member Lindsay Hilton for her International Rugby Board Spirit of Rugby Award, a true inspiration, Lindsay has received recognition for her passion, determination and attitude toward the sport.  For more information on the award see the IRB Spirit of Rugby Award.

The Enfield RFC is enjoying the start of a long, cold winter by making use of the indoor facility at the East Hants Sportsplex in Lantz!  Every second week through the winter the club will be running indoor sessions to make sure we keep up on our basic skills, fitness and avoid slipping into those much maligned winter blues.  The first session was a great success with roughly 40 attendees who put in a great effort throughout an evening of handling drills and  a variation of rugby league run by coach Jon White.  The crowd was a mix of club veterans alongside an excellent showing of new players, many from HERH.

Enfield RFC welcomes anyone interested to come check out the sessions and participate to whatever degree they are comfortable.  A membership to the full season is available for $60, or sessions can be attended individually for $7.  High School players are welcomed to join the club for a nominal fee of $2 per session.  Sessions are non-contact and offer something for everyone regardless of skill level.

In the interest of promoting recreation and active lifestyles, the Enfield RFC is working with Hants East Rural High to run weekly fitness and rugby skill sessions.  Hants East students are getting outside for some fall fitness as well as learning some basic rugby skills and becoming familiar with the laws of the game.  Enfield RFC members and coaches as well as High School Women's Coaches, Serena Matthews and Ashley Ettinger have invited all males and females new to the sport as well as all veterans out to the pitch on Wednesdays after school.

Back to basics is the theme for each session. For many grade 9's, high school is the first time they are exposed to rugby.  One student commented that they had never seen a rugby ball before. Our goal this fall is to bring as many students as we can to the same level with both their skills and understanding of the game before season.

Other Enfield RFC members and coaches will be coming as 'guest coaches' to some of the sessions as Enfield offers many levels of experience and knowledge. Paired with this, the sessions aim to foster a closer relationship with high school and club rugby.
